what did the government say

On Tuesday, in response to a question asked in Parliament, the government said that about 30.5 lakh cases of dog bites were reported during 2023. There were 286 such cases in which people died. According to the data received by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 30,43,339 cases of dog bites were reported during 2023. In this, 286 people died due to dog bites.

Cases from 2019 to 2022

According to the information given in the Parliament by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, 72 lakh 77 thousand 523 dog attacks were reported in 2019. Whereas, in the year 2020, there were 46 lakh 33 thousand 493 dog attacks. On the other hand, if we talk about the year 2021, a total of 1701133 dog bite cases were reported this year. Whereas, till July 2022, the total number of dog attacks on Indians was 14 lakh 50 thousand 666.

What is the government doing to stop this

Responding in Parliament on behalf of the government, it was said that according to the report received from the National Center for Disease Control, the number of anti-rabies vaccines during the year 2023 was 46,54,398. At the same time, the Ministry of Health has been implementing the National Rabies Control Program in all the states and union territories of the country since the 12th Five Year Plan for the prevention and control of rabies in the country. However, this scheme will not be implemented in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
